It was probably the closest the district will ever come again to the quiet of its mid-century days, when the hotels were retirement communities. The photographs were taken between the day the beaches closed and the day they were scheduled to reopen: 106,560 minutes.
Every copy was made by hand in a South Beach apartment: paper cut from large sheets, printed, scored, trimmed, bound and letterpressed, about three hours per book. Seventy were made in the summer of 2020 and the final thirty in 2021. The edition of 100 is sold out.
The full Art Deco series from those weeks follows the book photographs below.
Specs: 32 pages, 8.25 × 6 in. Photo matte paper, 235 gsm, water-resistant, acid- and lignin-free. Archival pigment inks. Letterpressed cover, numbered and signed.
