Spending nearly a month traveling through mexico wasn’t in my plans for 2014. In fact, Mexico wasn’t in my plans until about a week before I actually touch down there.
I’ve left America, again. Mexico City, Population 21.2 million
I happened to be staying in Portland OR for a couple weeks after an amazing month-long road trip up from LA. Mike, an old friend from high school who was also visiting Portland, reached out to me and we met up. After reminiscing about our little league team growing up, Mike mentioned he was going to Mexico City. He’s a bilingual teacher and has summers off so traveling to central and south america is the best way to improve his already impressive spanish. He invited me to join him. I bought my flight to Mexico City the next day and touched down a few nights later.
Mostly unplanned, we started in Mexico city and traveled by bus to Puebla, Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, and ending in San Cristobal. The longer legs of the trip consisted of bus rides up to 14 hours through the mountains of Mexico. It’s all part of the experience, right? The photos below
A quick day trip outside Mexico City, the ancient city of Teotihuacan once inhabited a population of 200,000 people
My last night in Mexico, I saw this sign at the hostel I was staying at. It was calling me.. but it was time for me to continue my journey to New York City. I had a sublet arranged to spend the next two months in Brooklyn so it was time to go.
Mexico was a trip. We met so many great people – locals and travelers alike. Solo travelers- there were plenty of them! Men and women. If you’re thinking about it, just do it. Every trip I’ve taken has given me a wider perspective on life and is something I’ll keep with me forever. Onward!
